Work is due to commence next month on a major new student accommodation development at Prussia Street, Dublin, with Donnachadh O’Brien & Associates Consulting Engineers leading on civil engineering design and delivery.
The scheme will provide 236 student bedspaces across three blocks, ranging in height from five storeys along Prussia Street to seven storeys over lower ground floor towards the rear boundary adjoining the TU Dublin Grangegorman Campus.
A wide range of student amenities are included in the development, such as communal areas, a gym, study rooms, an auditorium, meeting rooms, laundry facilities, a designated bicycle store, and landscaped external amenity spaces across multiple levels. A reception area and office will also be located in Block A.
Vehicular access will be limited to services and emergency vehicles via Prussia Street. A new internal street will provide direct pedestrian and cycle access between Prussia Street and the TU Dublin Grangegorman Campus through an opening in the historic boundary wall, a Protected Structure.
The project team at Donnachadh O’Brien & Associates has been led by Associate and Project Manager Richard Kiernan, working closely with Kathryn Batista, Thais Damaceno, and Technician Nickey Quigley to bring forward the detailed engineering design.
The scheme will also deliver extensive landscaping, boundary treatments, signage, bin storage, ESB substations, and associated works. Once complete, it will provide much-needed student accommodation while enhancing connectivity and public realm in the area.
